Gearing Up for the FIFA World Cup!
The FIFA World Cup kicks off on Saturday, June 13, featuring seven matches played through July 7. We’ll be hosting personal safety popups on three of the match days: June 21 (1-3) at the Robson/Bute Plaza, June 26 (11-1) at the 1800 Davie Plaza, and July 7, (3:30-5:30) at Jim Deva Plaza. We’ll have safety brochures and items (alarms, whistles, drink shields, reflectors). We’ll also have additional patrols, and be delivering safety brochures in twelve languages to tourist accommodations, and car and bike rental businesses.
Throughout June and July, we’ll be appearing at community events beginning with a return engagement to the Lord Roberts Elementary School’s Funfest on June 6. There will be Project 529 bike registrations, safety pop-ups, health check patrols during hot days, and more!
Check out our calendar to find out what we’ll be doing, where, and when!
Project 529
As the days grow longer, sunnier, and warmer, seasonal cyclists are taking their bikes, e-bikes, and kick-scooters out. Thieves have taken note, and we are beginning to experience our usual seasonal uptick in bike thefts.
Thieves don’t just target high-end equipment, or unlocked or poorly locked bikes. They target bike lockers, children’s bikes, and bikes with a few extra kms on them. Don’t be complacent!
The more barriers you have to protect your ride; the less thieves will consider it a worthwhile target. Registering your bike/scooter with the online Project 529 BC system helps deter theft and improve chances of recovery if stolen. Come by our office 10-5:30, Mon-Sat, and we’ll register your bike. It takes minutes, and there is no cost! Find out more about Project 529 here.
